Origin Story:
When I started my other business, Mer Maid Cleaning of Sarasota, I quickly realized that many of my senior clients would request additional tasks outside of our cleaning agreement. Tasks like changing a ceiling light bulb or minor repairs became common requests. While they offered to pay for these services, I found myself reiterating that my primary focus was cleaning.
As these interactions continued, I reflected on my own future. I don't have children, and one day, I knew I would need help as I got older. This realization gave rise to the idea that everyone should have access to reliable help when needed. Thus, the name "I need a Melissa" was born, embodying the essence of support and reliable assistance for those who, like me, might not have family nearby. It symbolizes a community where help is readily available, reflecting both a sentiment of care and understanding for those in need.

Our founder, Melissa, established this advocacy with a clear mission: to create a platform that connects older individuals with the support they need in their everyday lives. Inspired by her experiences and the challenges her own mother faced in balancing personal and residential responsibilities, Melissa set out to build a resource that prioritizes accessibility, reliability, empowerment and respect.
